Greetings Disciples!
I hope your Easter season was a blessing! I watched many of our Easter services online and was at Westside Christian Church in Topeka on Easter morning. It was a joy to be with these fantastic people. One of the challenges of Easter is how tiring it all is! Palm Sunday to Easter lunch is a marathon for everyone. On Easter Monday, we all take a deep breath and hope we have done enough until VBS this summer! But is that the right thing to do?
This week’s Gospel text from Acts chapter 3: Peter and John are on their way to the temple to worship after that first Easter morning. They come across a person begging outside the temple. They have what you and I might call a God moment! They see this person hurting, lost, disabled, and they chose to help! At that moment, Peter and John act as the hands and feet of Jesus! They are doing what Jesus told them to do! This not so small act of kindness had a profound impact. It’s a reminder that even our actions can make a big difference.
This is what you and I must do! Even when we are exhausted from all our work during the Easter season. We must look for these moments when God calls us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. It could be as simple as offering a listening ear to a friend in need, or volunteering at a local charity. We must be the people God has called us to be every single day. Peter and John could have continued into the temple, and no one would have even questioned them, but instead, they chose to help, love, and tend to their fellow humans. They chose to love their neighbor as themselves.
Let’s remember that our service to others should not be limited to the Easter season. It’s a commitment we should uphold every day.
Tom
