Thoughts from your Regional Minister
Written by Regional Minister Ken Marston

For many years when December rolls around, I find myself desiring to write a poem of sorts for the monthly column I write for the Central/High Plains District Messenger. I am not sure why; it just feels like the thing to do. This year, with or without your indulgence I share my poetic thoughts with the whole region.
Along time ago, in a little town in a faraway land,
came a master woodworker with wife to be in hand.
They came because of the king’s decree
and one of God’s great mysteries came to be.
Her name was Mary,
and her pregnancy was scary.
Joseph was his name
and he lived without blame.
When baby Jesus was born,
he was adored by those scorned.
He is the reason for this season after all
for he lifts us up from the great fall.
Love and mercy he grew up to offer,
to the faithful and the scoffer.
We call him Prince of Peace
for he desires that strife cease.
If we his teachings heed,
then peace will come indeed.
So, hear this prayer my friends
as this year’s poem ends,
May we seek to love others
as sisters and brothers.
Let us stop pointing judging fingers,
so anger and hate no longer lingers!
May you all have a merry and peace-filled Christmas as well as a happy New Year!
