Fun, fellowship and the reconnecting of Kansas Disciples was experienced by all at the 2021 Disciples Connect and Equip event. Thirty-eight churches and 130 people participated in the in-person event at Tawakoni.
During opening worship, church representatives brought stones to build an Ebeneezer. During the closing worship, those same representatives were asked to select a stone, not their own, to take home as a reminder to pray and lift up fellow Kansas Disciples.
Regional Minister Steve Martin was honored for his 24 years of regional ministry through the reading of camper memories, a tree-planting dedication, and a farewell blessing.
General Minister and President Terri Hord Owens offered the keynote message “How Big is Your God?” during closing worship and challenged us to imagine God’s limitless love.
At the event, two additional informal dedications were held honoring recent memorial gifts. A memorial bench was provided by the family and friends of Bob Alderson, an avid fan of the camp program. The bench is engraved with, “In Memory of BOB ALDERSON.”
The second dedication was at the new canteen near the swimming pool. The family and friends of the Rev. Kim Rea provided funds to build the new canteen. The camp is grateful for those who remember loved ones in this manner.
Recordings of the event will be uploaded to the regional website in the coming weeks.
