The ALEX Yearbook reporting period for 2023 data will open on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Church reports are due to your regional Business Office electronically by Thursday, Feb. 29.
ALEX is a database that will be shared by the whole Church. General Minister and President Terri Hord Owens set reporting as an objective early in her tenure, knowing that business intelligence (data) is key to making informed decisions. ALEX will position Disciples to have a real-time directory and picture of churchwide trends.
Additionally, having your church listed in ALEX satisfies federal reporting requirements for 501(c)3 non-profit tax exempt status. Kansas churches still need to submit reports to the state to maintain tax exempt status. Learn more here.
As we continue to build out the system, congregations, regions, and general ministries will be able to analyze trends in geographical areas, see changes in staffing models, look for ways to combine strengths, and more.
Information in ALEX will not be sold or shared with third party vendors. ALEX is an exclusive application built only for Disciples congregations, regions, and general ministries to use. Congregation statistics in ALEX, like the white pages in the printed Yearbook, are available to individuals, congregations, ministers, regions, and general ministries that purchase a subscription for online access.
A worksheet is available as you gather your information for the report. This year’s worksheet significantly reduces the amount of data requested to make reporting less cumbersome and improve the response rate.
Each congregation should have at least one user with the role of Congregational Reporter. An ALEX user with this role must electronically submit the annual ALEX Yearbook. Paper worksheets cannot be accepted. Regional staff cannot enter church data.
If you are the Congregational Reporter, you can update your congregation’s information by logging into ALEX and going to the Yearbook (ribbon icon) section. Click the Edit Entry button. To save and submit your changes, go to the Submit tab, enter your name, and click the Submit button.
If you think your congregation does not have a username, please email [email protected] and include your congregation’s PIN or name/city/state. We can look up the username on file.
If you want to change the username and/or contact email, the person who initially received the email can follow steps below to login and then go to “settings” and change the information to the desired contact information then click on “save”.
Thank you for your partnership as we prepare for this year-end task.
