Churches Healing Children From Trauma

September 14, 2023 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

There are more than 6,000 children in “out of home” care in the state of Kansas, living in foster homes or living with friends or relatives (kinship families). These children and families often struggle with their children’s and teens’ challenging behaviors caused by previous abuse, neglect or trauma.

Evidence suggests that every Christian Church in Kansas is connected to families that are raising children from trauma. For example, at the CYF camp in 2022, 25% of the campers were living with caregivers that were not their biological parents.

The challenging behaviors of these children from trauma often lead to financial, scholastic, relational, spiritual and legal problems for the family. Families with children from trauma often lose support of family, friends and even church families.

In this workshop, Greg Rea will share no-cost and low-cost ways that churches can lovingly support these families and help them heal their children and teens. If your church would like to increase the frequency and intensity of care for these families, plan to attend these training sessions.

The workshop is hosted by Greg Rea, an ordained Disciples minister, a Trust-based Relational Intervention Practitioner and a Post-Adoptive Support Specialist who has provided hundreds of hours of training/coaching to over a thousand families and professionals.

From personal experience, he knows the struggles that children go through dealing with their history and the challenges that families experience. Through that experience and his background in ministry, Greg has become an expert in the principles and strategies that caregivers can use that promote healing in the brains and bodies of children from trauma.

Registration is $15 per individual or $10 per person when signing up as a church team.  (A church team consists of three or more from the same church.)  Registration deadline is Sept 7. Registrations accepted after Sept. 7 by phone only (316-775-1236) and at event organizer’s descretion.
