Barbara RungeBarbara Runge began serving as a volunteer staff for Women’s Ministries in 2005. In 2006 the Kansas Disciples Women Cabinet voted to fund that position through donations from local DWF/CWFs in the region. Since 2007 the region began partnering with them to support the position in 25% increments until 2010 when the position will be fully funded by the regional budget. Barb served from 2000-2004 as Kansas Disciples Women President. Her duties include serving as a resource for the cabinet and local circles as needed as well as overseeing the annual retreats and Spirit Fest events.
“Barb” is a life-long Disciple, growing up in the Greater Kansas City area. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri in Elementary Education. She taught fifth grade reading in the Park Hill School District and then substitute taught for many years in Minnesota, Idaho and Kansas. She was the Lifestyles Editor for the McPherson Sentinel for nine years and also worked as the Director of Christian Education at McPherson First Christian Church during that time. Barb has served local churches and regions as an elder, board moderator, diaconate, CWF president, youth leader, camp and conference leader, chaired most functional ministries and regional board secretary.
Barb and her husband, Dick, live in Topeka and they have one adult daughter.
